New low-floor tram to go to 3rd Snowballing championship
„An active lifestyle helps people to preserve their health and increases energy, that is why Riga City Council supports such events. I am pleased that Mežaparks has become a place where people can take rest and spend their free time usefully, both in summer and winter,” says Riga Mayor Nils Ušakovs.
The 3rd Latvian Snowballing Championship is organised by „Actimel”. The participants of the championship will be offered to take part in various winter sporting events, as well as to learn, together with popular Latvian singer Lauris Reiniks, the text of unofficial winter anthem “Snowball, snowball more” and its particular dance. Snowballing Championship of „Actimel” is organised on the eve of January 20, the International Snow Day.
On Saturday, the first special tram will leave for the championship from tram stop „Railway Terminal Square” at 10.30, there will be more runs during the day.
After the event, the last special tram will leave tram stop „Mežaparks” (next to Riga Zoo) at 16.00. The super long tram will run without stopping between terminals. It is a new 41-metre long „Škoda 15T1” 4-section low floor tram with a maximum capacity of 432 passengers.
The organisers of the championship point out that all its events will be free of charge. There will be events for both individual participants and teams, for people of different ages and interests. As weather forecast predicts a temperature of – 13 C on the average, the organisers of the championships urge people to dress warmly.
The opening of the championship is due at 12.00, participants can either register on spot, starting from 11.00 of January 19, or in advance, at the official page of „Actimel” on Draugiem.lv (draugiem.lv/actimel).
The 3rd Latvian Snowballing Championship is also sponsored by culture and recreation park „Mežaparks”, which is managed by Riga municipal company SIA „Rīgas Meži”.
